This blog will provide information about Estero de Platano, which is a beach located on the South of Esmeraldas (it's a province located in Ecuador, at the north close to Colombia)
To get here from Quito:
A) There are direct Buses to Atacames. I am not sure, but there might be a seasonal bus to "Muisne". Ask in the terminal, get in either the one to "Muisne" or "Atacames"
If you get to the one to "Muisne", get down of the Bus in "Tonchigue".
The Bus companies usually going are "River Tabiazo" "La Costeñita" "Transportes del Pacifico" and "River Tabiazo
Here, you need to get to a Bus going to "Cabo San Francisco"
Tell the driver that you want to get down in "Estero de Platano", the previous photo is a panoramic view from the beach. When
you see that image, you are close to this beach
If you could not get into a bus heading to Muisne, get into a Bus going to Atacames. Here, you will need to get into a Bus going to Muisne. Then, you will need to get down in Tonchigue.
In Tonchigue, you will need to get a bus going to Cabo San Francisco, and get down in Galera
B) Get a bus to Esmeraldas and then get into a Bus to Muisne
You will need to go to Esmeraldas' Bus Terminal, and then get into a "Gilberto Zambrano","La Costeñita", "Transporte del Pacifico" or "River Tabiazo"
I am assuming that if you are heading to Muisne, you already know how to get to "Estero de Platano"
From Guayaquil:
You have the same option that you had from Quito. There are buses depending on the season, that usually go directly to Atacames. If you can not find one, get into a Bus to Esmeraldas, and then do as you would do if you were coming from Quito
From Montañita or Manabi or Ruta del Sol/Ruta del Espondilus
If you coming boarding the Beach (ruta del sol or Espondilus), say you are in Montañita or Canoa. You need to ask which bus company is going north or going Esmeraldas.
I am attaching a map of Ecuador, and a map of Esmeraldas
Send an private message to the Moderator if you want to get further

Note: That there is no principal highway going to "Estero de Platano", if you see signs that say "Galera" or "Cabo San Francisco", you are in the right route
